The San Diego Monastery holds Sunday lectures, evening classes, and meditation and vesper services. Regular visitors are welcome to borrow books and tapes from the monastery library. In addition, a selection of spiritual books and other items are available for purchase from the bookstore.

History
In 1957, Swami Prabhavananda came to San Diego to meet with a small group of people interested in Vedanta. He sent one of his assistants to continue the meetings for a time, but eventually they became sporadic and were finally discontinued.

In the early 1970s, the meetings resumed and were led by another of Swami Prabhavananda's assistants. These meetings continued steadily and were held at private homes—first in El Cajon, then Del Mar, and finally La Mesa.

In 1983, under the guidance of Swami Swahananda, a house adjacent to the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park was purchased by the Vedanta Society of Southern California. Lectures, classes and worship services have been held regularly with a resident swami ever since.
